Purpose: To provide a critiqued forum where students can explore relationships between their music study and other areas of interest, to create a unique performance for an audience of their own choosing.
Challenge Awards: A Music Bridges program earns 200 Challenge Award points. More than one program may be presented in a year or on a given date.
Rules:
There is no Theory Requirement for Music Bridges.
Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to participate.
A program will consist of:
- Two solo pieces or movements written or arranged specifically for the student’s instrument or voice
- Three additional options to be selected from musical or outside interests. Options may be simply three additional pieces or movements written for the student’s instrument or voice, or they may be drawn from other interests or talents the student may wish to showcase. All non-musical options must be related to the student’s music study in some specific way.
Students will be asked to explain to the audience how each part of their performance relates to music, and will also be asked questions regarding their process in putting their program together.
Participants will receive a written critique with a one-to-five-star rating, and a certificate with a seal indicating “Excellent” for four stars or “Superior” for five stars.
See the Teacher’s Guide to Music Bridges for more information and ideas for programs.
