MMTA 2022 Call for Compositions for the Diversity Addendum (of the 2020 Piano Syllabus)
Deadline: April 15, 2022
The Piano Exam Development Committee is pleased to announce the 2022 Call for Compositions for the Diversity Addendum (of the 2020 Piano Syllabus) in order to collect repertoire suggestions from the entire MMTA membership to welcome and include women composers born before 1940 and composers who have been under-represented, overlooked, and/or forgotten. All MMTA members are welcome to participate in what will become an annual gathering and selection process of repertoire for the Diversity Addendum. When the 2030 Piano Syllabus is edited and revised, the pieces in the Diversity Addendum will be collated into the Syllabus, and the process of adding repertoire through a Diversity Addendum will continue through the next decade.
Now through April 15, 2022: Look for repertoire of excellence in the teaching literature, in musical publications, and online that would expand the Piano Syllabus to include composers from historically marginalized groups. Of special interest are compositions by women in the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras. Make a diligent search for a suggested piece to be sure it is not already in the Piano Syllabus, Diversity Addendum, or 5 year Contest List. The Resource File contains all the lists to aid in the search for the piece.
By April 15, 2022: Email repertoire suggestions with publication information including complete title, book, publisher, and if possible the book number, to Sara Langmead at saralangmead@icloud.com
April and May 2022: The PED Committee will review every piece and decide which pieces to include the 2022 Diversity Addendum (of the 2020 Piano Syllabus).
June 2022: New pieces will be announced and highlighted at the 2022 MMTA Convention. The repertoire will be available for exam use immediately and the online Resource File will be updated.
