About the MMTA Foundation

MMTAF offers Teacher, District and Local Association Grants, Travel Grants for Minnesota winners of MTNA division performance competitions, and Monetary Awards for students who have demonstrated superior achievement in MMTA educational exams. Additional achievement awards include the Young Artist Winner, Student Composition Winner and Student of the Year.

The Minnesota Music Teachers Association Foundation State Fellow Award recognizes and honors music teachers and members (current and former) of MMTA for their outstanding, long-lasting, and inspiring contributions to music education in the state of Minnesota.

Grants and Awards


Robert Schmitt Professional Development Grants

The MMTA Foundation provides financial assistance for music teachers undertaking projects which enhance their professional development. Funding provided through a generous gift from Schmitt Music Company.

District/Local Association Grant Application

MMTA Districts and Local Associations are encouraged to apply for assistance in funding educational programs.

Student of the Year Award

Given to a senior in High School, the Student of the Year Award honors a music student who demonstrates involvement in MMTA programs. The candidate should display a strong record of service to his or her community through music; participation in musical ensembles; and skill as a performer and creative musician.

The winning student is awarded $1,000. This award is presented at the MMTA Foundation Award Winners Recital held the Sunday evening prior to the MMTA Convention.

Student MMTA Exam Awards

A large portion of MMTA Foundation distributions fund the Student MMTA Exam Awards. Monetary awards are given to the highest-scoring students after each academic year.
